PREFACE
Seagrass beds have come to be known as extremely productive and valuable coastal wetland resources. They are critical nursery areas for many fish, shrimp, and crab species. They support the adults of these and other species that forage around seagrass beds, preying on the rich and varied fauna that occur in these habitats.

Humans have begun to monitor the welfare of seagrasses in Florida and elsewhere around the world. We have learned many of the factors that cause seagrass stress, and in addition to continuing those research efforts, we are are now working toward educating citizens how to minimize human impacts to the seagrasses.
