COMMERCIAL LANDINGS DATA
Commercial fisheries include any species that are harvested and sold for human consumption, for medical use, in aquarium or souvenir trades, or for any other for-profit purpose. The state of Florida collects data from commercial harvesters and dealers to generate statistics on the types of species and quantities landed as well as the size, weight, and age distribution of harvested species.
Summarized landings data can be downloaded from this site as PDF files. Before downloading landings data from this Web site, please note the following:
- 2008 data are preliminary. Final landings will be posted as soon as they are available.
- All data are subject to change. Corrections and additions are made to the database as they are provided, and revised landings will be posted when available. Calendar year landings are considered final as of July of the following year.
- Factors used to convert landed quantity to whole weight are available on this page.
- Stone crab landings are reported as claw weight rather than whole weight.
- Sponges are reported as pieces harvested rather than pounds.

Commercial Landings Table
Commercial landings are listed annually by the following categories: Statewide,
by Coast, by County, and by Month.
Statewide annual commercial landings tables include pounds harvested, the number of fishing trips, average dockside value, and estimated total value for each harvested species. Landings tables by Coast include pounds harvested and fishing trips delineated by the east and west coasts of Florida. The boundary between the east and west coasts has historically been drawn at the line between Dade County and Monroe County. Separate totals for inland and out-of-state pounds harvested and fishing trips pertains to commercial harvest landed in a non-coastal county of Florida or in another state. County landings tables include pounds harvested and fishing trips broken out by county landed. County landed is the county where the fishery product first came ashore. Monthly commercial landings tables include annual pounds harvested and number of fishing trips for each harvested species, delineated by month.
Report status indicates whether the annual landings files are finalized or preliminary. Commercial landings with a status of preliminary are incomplete and will be updated as information is received. Landings listed as final are subject to corrections and deletions. Revisions will be posted when available and the date revised will be recorded in the following table.
Whole Weight Conversion Factors
Landings summaries are in pounds of whole weight (with the exception of sponges, which are in "pieces" and stone crabs, which are in claw weight, and clams and oysters, which are in meat weight). However, some species are sold in quantities other than pounds whole weight. For example, clams are sold by the piece or by the gallon; tuna and swordfish are gutted and headed; snappers and groupers are gutted, and spiny lobsters may be tailed. The conversion factor is the number that is multiplied by the quantity in whatever units landed to produce the pounds of whole weight.
Commercial Fishing License Summaries
License summaries provide information on the number of fishing licenses, permits, and endorsements that are issued to commercial fishers by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Commercial licenses are issued by fiscal year
(July 1June 30) rather than calendar year. For purposes of associating license summaries to fishery landings, use the license (fiscal) year that begins July 1 of the calendar landings. For example, the 20062007 license year estimates participation by license and permit type for 2006 landings.
Commercial Marine Life (Tropical Ornamentals)Statewide commercial marine life (tropical ornamentals) landings are listed annually. The annual landings files include total numbers (not pounds), the number of fishing trips, average dockside value, and estimated total value for each harvested marine life species. Report status indicates whether the annual landings files are finalized or preliminary. Commercial marine life landings with a status of
preliminary are incomplete and will be updated as information is received. Landings listed as final are subject to corrections and deletions. Revisions will be posted when available and the date revised will be recorded in the following table.
