Description
More than 60 species of mussels and clams live in Florida's freshwaters. They usually inhabit shallow, sandy bottoms of lakes and streams and are an important functional component of freshwater ecosystems. The US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has protected seven Florida mussels species by listing them as Threatened or Endangered. This pamphlet provides illustrations of these listed species as well as other species found in Florida's freshwaters, and provides information on maximum length, interior and exterior appearance, and harvest information.
